It all started in 2003 when I went to Appalachian Outfitters to buy a sleeping bag.  I was lost in the store and asked for help, little did I know that the guy helping me was Bob (the then Owner).  If you don’t know Bob, he is the best sales person in the world.  I walked out with a complete set of backpacking gear.  Bob showed me pictures from North Fork and I got hooked before I even took one step on a trail.  I was looking for a new adventures and Backpacking fit the bill.

I have gone solo and with a group and I figured that I prefer going with a group.   After looking for clubs/organizations/group that I could join in Northeast Ohio, I came up with nothing so I decided to start one. My goal was to create a web site where members can schedule trips and other members can join, and exchange backpacking tips/trails etc.  So far our community has grown way beyond my expectations, and I made lots of very good friends.

My favorite "Local" trips so far are North Fork, and Mount Rogers. My Favorite in the west are Wind River Range in Wyoming and Sawtooth Wilderness in Idaho.

I would love to hear from any one that has any ideas for improvements.  All you day hikers that want to take the leap into Backpacking don't hesitate to call on me.

When I'm not backpacking I am a Computer Consultant, I work in the yard (lately my tool of choice has been Roundup), and Spend some time on this web site.  Meet me at the trail head for a good hike and lets get to know each other around the camp fire.

I mainly do weekend backpacking/camping, but even find that hard to do between family and work.  I've spent more time car camping with the family recently, but looking to get out backpacking more this year.

Most enjoyable place found so far has been North Manitou Island in Lake Michigan; however Kentucky has some nice scenery.

I'm relatively new to backpacking, always been a fan of the outdoors but didn't get serious about it until a short stint (650 miles) on the A.T. in '04. Now....I backpack like its my job, averaging @ 500 miles a year. Most recent trips include a long section on the C.D.T. and a two day hike on PA.'s Black Forest Trail. I'm new to this club and looking forward to see what it's all about!

I have been hiking and backpacking since 2003 and I have absolutely fallen in love with it. It is such a challenging, rewarding, fulfilling and enjoyable hobby. Any time I get a chance, I go. I would love to do the entire Appalachian Trail someday.

My hiking claim-to-fame is hiking the England Coast-2-Coast trail, 210 miles in 13 days, and living to tell about it.

As of 2008, I'm new to backpacking. I've done a lot of canoeing in Kentucky and SW Ohio; I've dayhiked in Hocking Hills, Red Rock State Park (NV), and Death Valley (CA), and camped in Mammoth Cave. I relocated to NE Ohio in August '08 for work as a public housing administrator in Youngstown.

I just turned 40. I guess I can't be called Adventure Boy anymore. I like to hike, bike, climb, and kayak. You name it, I'll try it. I'm good at a lot of things but an expert at none! I've climbed the Grand Teton(guided), Mt. Washington, Mt. Adams, Mt. Jefferson, Katahdin, and various other smaller mountains. I've hiked in the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Yosemite, Acadia, Zion, Bryce and parts of the Appalachian, and Buckeye Trails. I love to get out and use the towpath trail in the CVNP. I would like to find a group to do weekend trips with, as well as a week long trip once a year. I'd really like to do more mountaineering, and alpine stuff out West.

I enjoy everything involving the outdoors. I consistantly mountain bike, rock climb, dayhike, and geocache. I also enjoy white water rafting, canoeing, fishing, snorkling, kayaking, backpacking, and just existing in perfect harmony in the outdoors. My friends and I try to do this stuff as much as we can.
I hike constantly in Cuyahoga Valley N.P. and the local metroparks. Some more memorable dayhikes have been in places like Arizona, Utah, Colorado, and Hawaii. I have hiked the Buckskin Gulch slot canyon in Arizona and the Kalalau Trail of the Na Pali coast in Hawaii. Both of these hikes are in the top ten hikes in the world as rated by Adventure Magazine.

Although I was raised in Michigan and now reside in Northeastern Ohio, Colorado feels like home.  Nothing compares to the solitude and the calm of the summit, and the exertion that it takes to get to the top.

Started backpacking/hiking about four years ago. Beach hikes are my favorites. Last year i hiked the Lost Coast and redwood NP in California, then in december i went to HAwaii to hike in Volcanoes NP. This year I would like to hike the Olympic coast, maybe go out to Hawaii and hike the Napali coastal trail on Kauai. Love to meet other people with the same interest in hiking/backpacking.

CKWE '99 and NOLS Alaska '01 grad and hiked some of the SW (Joshua Tree, Grand Canyon, Painted Desert, etc) in '03.  Got a desk job and haven't had time to go on any major hikes in the past couple of years.  Trying to get back into the swing of things and looking for some places in NE Ohio to just overnight camp / 2day hike on the weekends and hoping to find some good people to share the outdoors with.  Interested to see what winter hike opportunities there are here.

I am always looking for hiking and biking buddies.  I have been into hiking for the last few years.  I love the outdoors and I have this goal in life to climb to the highest point in all 50 states.  So far I have done 10.  I am looking to join this club as a chance to meet fellow hikers who love the outdoors and get a chance to take some fabulous trips.

See you on the trails....

I have recently relocated back to Ohio from Arizona, and I have an interest in finding outdoor adventures in or near my home state. I have a friend, Jennifer, in the club and she encouraged me to join. I have not been able to attend a trip as of yet, but work is slowing down and I plan to attend the winer trip in January. My background includes that I am a graduate of Ohio University and Ohio State, and I am currently a Social Worker in the Columbus area. Two of my favorite hiking trips where the Grand Cayon (Hermit trail) and Mt. Humphreys in Flagstaff. I look forward to meeting everyone and I will try to make it to a meeting before the Oil Creek Trip. -Amanda

sounds like a license plate cover, but above all... i'd rather be hiking....      must be the feel of the breeze, the colors of the trees or the simple complexity of nature.  maybe it's just an excuse to play in the mud...  there's nothing like the smell of dirt.

i'm looking for like-minded friends to experience some new adventures and i'm always up for a local day hike or last-minute weekend backpack trip - just drop me an email.

I've been backpacking with friends since October 2005.  I've been pretty active all my life, trying new things and loving the outdoors. My most memorable backpacking experience was a week long trip to Isle Royale.  I can't wait to go back to the island!

Love the outdoors: Bicycle Self Contained Touring, Car (Tent)Camping, Hiking, Sailing,  Fly Fishing, Fly Tying, Bass Fishing. Just cannot figure out what I would like to do when I grow up. At 59 years young thought I'll just not grow-up. There are other interests, but will not just go on and on.

I have enjoyed running, biking, and day hikes for many years, but new to backpacking and overnight hikes.  Being outdoors is a grounding experience for me.  I enjoy experiencing each breathtaking view in the moment.  Live, Laugh, Love.

I am enjoying getting "back to nature", and love the backpacking trips I have been taking with my son.  He and I spent most of this summer backpacking.  He wanted to earn his backpacking Merit Badge with the Boy Scouts (which he completed in July).  We learned a lot, but still have a lot more to learn.  Although most of our backpacking was done in southern Ohio, we also enjoyed Raccoon Creek PA, the LONG walking tour of Gettysburg, 30 miles of the C&O canal trail from Cumberland MD, and other areas mostly in Ohio.
I would love to meet other Scouting families to go backpacking with.  My son belongs to a small Troop, and the other Scouts do not really appreciate the joy of backpacking.

I am a CT resident, but my family is in OH and my sister encouraged me to join this site.  We hope to meet up one day on the trail.

I have been hiking most vacations for the last 15 plus years.  My last vacation was in Sequoia/Kings Canyon and Yosemite; where I hiked 8 out of 10 days of the trip.  I have done some easy and some difficult hikes; but have never backpacked.  I may be slow, but steady.

I love to be outdoors and would love to learn more about backpacking.
