I mainly do day hiking, but have backpacked on occasion.  Am also an experienced whitewater kayaker & sea kayaker.  Have done a number of canoe & kayak camping trips, including two non-guided 18 day kayaking trips on the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon and a 5 day canoe trip on the White River in Canada.

i would love to backpack and be out in the wilderness as a career. i am married with 4 young children and another on the way. i am a master auto tech and i need to do as much side work as i can to feed the family and afford to get out on the trail. so if anybody has car troubles let me know. i specialize in diagnostics and the "big" jobs.

I from Vermont and I have family in Cleveland that I visit regularly and I'm hoping to discover some good backpacking spots within a couple of hours- Alleghany NF is a little far but we've had some fun there. I can't remember where we were but in the western part. Pitched camp on top of this really cool huge square bolder that had moss and trees. I'm also wondering if there is any primitive camping on any Lake Erie islands. I wish I had time to do more backpacking, mostly just day hikes around Vermont when I can

Just turned 50 and can't keep putting off adventures.  Hubby physically can't do this stuff - and doesn't like sleeping on the ground.  I want to get out doing what I love (but need to get in shape for)!  I want to bring my dog.  I want to stare up at the skies at night and bask in the majesty!

Active and in shape loves being outdoors. Hiking, boating, fishing, horses, pedal bikes and motorcycles (H-Drider) Harleys of course.
Single male who would love to find an active woman who could compliment me and her. A partner to just enjoy outside activities and anything else.
I was introduced to backpacking years ago and instantly fell in love with it. I like the idea of having everything on your back and when you stop for the night its up to you.

As for non-outdoor stuff, you can find me drawing, collecting comics, and watching Family Guy, History channel, or Discovery channel.

i am in sales and stuck in a cube all week long, i like to try to do a day hike a few times a month.  i used to do a bunch of hiking and camping when i was younger but still like to go as much as i can.  most of the people i used to hike and camp with are too busy to go so maybe this will be fun to join a group that have the same interest.

I love being in the great outdoors surrounded by nature ... the further away from civilization the better. Been backpacking only a couple of years but am crazy about it .. first trip was 12 miles on the Laurel highlands and many more trips there afterwords, then Raccoon Creek, John P Saylor and Turkeyfoot trails near Winber Pa, Smokey Mountains, Dolly Sods, Otter Creek Wilderness .. I am headed to the Beartooth Mountains in Montana in August .. first time backpacking out west! I like to do 8 miles or more per day but will also do less .. I appreciate the company of those who share a love of nature, backpacking, the physical challenge of it and adventurous spirits. I have had the good fortune of backpacking with a few current members here before I joined and I look forward to future trips ..

I love to walk, hike, camp, and enjoy all types of nature  Would love to do more of it.  Work full time at Dollar General in the Warehouse Management Systems, my hours can be different.  I have been on one hike that lasted five days in Philmont, New Mexico with a group.  We hiked 10 miles a day and did some side hikes.  That was over 10 years ago.  I still do some day hiking and walking, but my time is limited.  Would love to get more involved.  Would not do trip alone.  Was involed with Boy Scouts, very active troop and  4-H, very active, plus worked one summer in Maine at a girls camp taking girls on 3 day trips, canoe, bike, etc.

I used to go backpacking with my ex-boyfriend and he had lots of experience so I just followed his lead. I want to learn everything there is to know about backpacking, survival in the wilderness, etc. I LOVE nature, as it cleans my spirit, and have been on a few backpacking trips with my husband and they went very well I want to learn all there is to know so I can do solo trips and feel comfortable with my skills. I also want to complete patches of the AT since at this stage in my life, I can't up and leave for that amount of time. :(

I have always had a yearning to be outdoors and a zest for adventure. Childhood romps in rural woods and fields yielded to more challenging pursuits that combined work and play: working in Jackson Hole WY and directing outdoor education programs at Hiram House for 5 yeas.

Over the years, I have, with my (recently deceased) husband, backpacked/ice and rock climbed/canoed/dog mushed/parachute jumped/igloo dwelled/and otherwise been on the loose in 49 states and 10 countries. I have three young adult children (21, 22, 25) who are Hawaii bound with me this December, thus completing our 50 state National Park backpacking saga.

Professionally, I direct the Institute for Creative Leadership, a nonprofit organization that facilitates leadership, team development and diversity training that uses an adventure based approach to learning.

Most recent adventure? This weekend I dodged lightning bolts and deciphered tornado alarm sirens as a group of friends paddled 3 days, two nights down the Allegheny River in PA. Most dreamed about adventure? Hiking in remote villages in and around the Mt. Everest region.

BTW, my trailname, Hanta Yo, is the name of my newly restored 100 year old wood canvas canoe - a real beauty - and in Native American tongue means "clear the way".

Been packpacking for over 20 years.  I have backpacked in Ohio, Missouri Minnesota, Michagan and Hawaii.  I have recently had to switch jobs and because of my new job my weekends are Monday and Tuesdays and I have to schedule my vacation time months in advance.  As you can understand this makes finding others to go hiking with extremly difficult.

I love the outdoors and have recently discovered mountain climbing in 2008. I have climbed with Lori Saviers who is also a member of your group, up Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa last July. She has encouraged me to join this group because you head up to Pa. and I am in NJ. I am a mother of four boys and I have also earned the rank of 2nd degree black belt in Tang Soo Do. My climbing nickname with the group me and Lori belong to "The Regulars" is Strong Feather so I thought it only appropriate to use it here. Well, that's it. Looking forward to some info.

I grew up playing in the woods and have found an affinity for everything outdoors related. I've enjoyed x-country skiing, caving, canoeing and kayaking, sailing, orienteering and even working on survival techniques.

I had my first back packing experiences with the Kent State Outdoor Club back in the late 80's. Heart's Content area was a little different then.

Typically I'll do local day hikes around the CVNRA or Chagrin area but want to get back into this again.

My first backpacking was in 1972-1973 in Vietnam with a 70 to 75 lb pack (ouch) Hard to make ammo,  claymores, and ammo boxes light.  The only thing light was the shelter and sleeping blanket.  I was able to do a few more enjoyable trips after Vietnam.  Three children later and finally able to get back to backpacking at the age of 61.  Actually found someone who thought it was fun.  We were able to get out and do 45 miles on the APT.  Look forward to doing at least a short trip in West Va. this fall

I'm married with two boys (9&11) and I'm looking at getting them involved in hiking along with my wife and I. I spent over eight years in the U.S. Marines so I've had my "break-in" when it comes to hiking. I live in Cuyahoga Falls (near Akron). I mainly go out on weekends. I'm wondering if there are many members from my neck of the woods. If so, feel free to look me up some time.

I "hang out" more than I want in central Ohio,
and think about the woods most of my waking life.
Been packing most of my life but have not seen enough places yet.
Been looking lately for the hidden places in southern Ohio and would like to check out more of PA.
And most important, I've always been a LNT freak.

I think I would rather live out in the forest than anywhere near the city.  I live for camping, canoeing, hiking, and mushroom collecting - but I am a beginner when it comes to long-term backpacking.  I hope to discover some not-too-distant locations where I can get started taking "weekend" trips and eventually to spend some real time in the wilderness.

I have been involved in the outdoors most of my life.  I enjoy camping, hiking, fishing, hunting, canoeing, and biking.  My wife and I, prior to having children spent time camping and hiking in the UP and southern Ohio.  Once we had children things slowed down, but now that they are older we have begun to camp with them.  We are looking forward to expanding our adventures outdoors.  My wife and I have a dream of hiking the AT someday.

I used to be fairly active in the past as far as hiking and camping but that was 15-20 years ago. I have been telling my wife that it is time to reconnect with the outdoors. I plan on doing just that and am hoping that this club will be a valuable resource of knowledge and information for my wife and I.

my logbook. Most of them in the ANF and Oil Creek SP. Also, I have hiked the STS and Black Forest Trail in north-central PA. On 4 recent trips, I have combined low power ham radio operating (QRP) with my hikes in the ANF. I'm a senior citizen now, but still in pretty good shape and able to go on multi-day outings.

This is long and boring, but I thought it a good exercise for myself:
I have spent my entire life playing in the woods. My first trip was at three months old: my mother carried me through the trails of Cook Forest. We spent nearly every other weekend there during the summers of my childhood. When not in PA I was playing along the Pymatuning Creek and the Shenango Wetlands. My first experiences backpacking were at age 17 when my friends and I would go on survival weekends into those same woods: I have eaten all sorts of creature. Since the birth of my first child, I have given up hunting completely, though. Throughout my 20’s I continued to car camp occasionally with my then wife. A divorce, a child, and a remarriage, my current wife and I began vacationing in that childhood second home Cook Forest. My father had long since sold his cottage but we were able to rent the same cabins that my grandparents took us to for two weeks every year. During this time I was learning to sail, hence the screen name, and became quite successful racing regionally with a team: we managed several Class and Overall awards on Lake Erie. We purchased a membership at a club on our local lake and continue to sail/race and camp there. When our fifth child was born we decided to begin vacationing in Michigan, the childhood home of my wife. The beaches are fantastic, and the state is plastered with campgrounds and over 10,400 lakes. While at Miners Beach on Lake Superior I saw several Sea Kayakers exploring places that I wanted to go, but could not get to on foot. On the drive home we picked up brochures from several kayak manufactures and by the end of the week we purchased kayaks. For several years we kayaked regularly, both lakes and rivers across four states. However, we were still avid day hikers, and I still had two external frame packs in the garage. One of our day hikes led us to Oil Creek State Park. The brochure convinced us that we could try backpacking without b

I am relatively new to backpacking (~4 yrs), but enjoy covering ground quickly. To the present, my most interesting trip has been crossing Isle Royale. Of course, the idea is to keep improving on that.

Been packing it for a few years now. Cant get enough of it. I usually stick to weekend trips no longer than three days/two nights. I've been anywhere from day tips in the Grand Canyon to weekends Backpacking around the Lake Erie Islands, and any trail in the reasonably close Midwest as far south as the Smokie Mountains.

Just got back into hiking last summer as the little guy is now old enough to take along. Mostly it's me and my two children, and they are young so we have been sticking to one night trips. Summer 2010 we're looking to do our first two night hike!

I'm 18 years old and I am a full time student at Ohio Dominican University. I am an accounting major. I have always wanted to backpack but have never gone out as of right now. I have been an avid hunter and fisher since I was little and have read tons of survival/wilderness living books and have dreamed of going backpacking ever since. This year I am buying my gear a little at a time and plan on going out in Late-March or April.

I'm 27, work in a domestic violence shelter, am a native of the highland square neighborhood of Akron, and love the outdoor world. I run, bike, mountain bike, hike, rock climb and am relatively new to backpacking. Nature is therapy for me, and way cheaper than paying someone in private practice. Spending time outdoors is how I rejuvenate myself.

Hi! I've been into backpacking since my late-teens - pretty much when I learned there was no future for me as a professional skateboarder ;) - just kiddin' - but that IS pretty much when my love for the outdoors led me to backpacking.

Although I'd always been into playing outside - fishing, skiing, hiking, skateboarding, etc. - I think I was 17 or 18 when I finally realized I could spend about what other kids my age were paying to go to Daytona Beach, etc. for Spring Break - once - and get all the gear I needed to take some really awesome vacations - from then on - and see some really wonderful sights without having to shell out a fortune for a hotel room, etc. each time I wanted to get away.

So now I'm 34 and, although I could probably afford a few Daytona Beach spring breaks with all the loot I've spent on backpacking gear over the years, I'd still take a rainy weekend in Allegheny National Forest than a sun-drenched week on a Florida beach any day of the week!

Anyhow, while suiting up for a weekend jaunt more than once lately at the Minister Creek parking lot, I've been asked by one random hiker or another whether I belong to Northeast Ohio Backpackers. My witty reply (although it got less and less witty each time I used it) was "Well, no, but I AM a Northeast Ohio backpacker..." One guy who was passing by my New Year's Eve campsite finally told me about the Web site so here I am and now I'm signing up.

I'm not sure if joining up here will get me out into the wilderness more often, but I sure hope so! Anyhow - so - uhhh - hi everyone!

Wow, where do I start? Backpacked thru the YMCA while in high school. Didn't do much backpacking for awhile again until Feb. 2009. But kept fit by hiking, kayaking, biking, ALL Natural bodybuilding training and regular weight training too.
Then as a Professional Home Inspector Winter of 2009 I had some time to come up with my "Challenging the Canyon for Cancer" (see www.ashi.com for story). My wife being a survivor of breast cancer, we got the backing and blessings of Susan G. Komen and I started to train for my R2R of the Grand Canyon. My stepson from Colorado was on board too...see link for more.

I have been actively backpacking for about the past 8 years. I have done many of the trails within a 5 hour drive of northeast ohio, and a couple outwest. Most of these have been with small groups from another club. I would like to expand my opportunities to meet new people who love to backpack and hike as I do. Looking forward to getting together with a group.

I've only been backpacking for 3 years now and I really enjoy it. 3 times to the Black Forest Trail. Finally did the whole loop last year on a solo trip. Have done Tracy Ridge twice and a good part of The Old Loggers Path. Numerous day hikes/car camping. I enjoy down hill and cross country skiing in winter. Looking to try winter backpacking, but only with knowledgeable partners. All of last years hikes were solo, which is cool. But looking to expand hiking horizons, ergo joining the club.

I am married and a mother of 3 girls ages 12 10 and 8. I am also a full time nurse in an ICU unit and love my job. I grew up camping and started hiking with my mom about 20 years ago. We have hiked many times in New Hampshire including the Rigde trail and Mt. Washington.  Always day hiked and would now like to do some backpacking.
My mom unfortunately has started to have knee and vascular issues and cannot hike as before. Hopefully these will be resolved and we can continue to hike. She has backpacked years ago and that is where my interest has come from. I have hiked a small piece of the AT but really dream of section hiking the entire trail  someday.
I guess now I am looking to find info, hiking groups and possible small back packing trips I could possibly go on. I just love camping and hiking and want to do more of it.

51 year old male. I live in Warren, Oh. Went on a 21 day Outward Bound class in Colorado at the age of 17. I have had a rekindled interested in Backpacking for approximately 7 years now. I have backpacked most trails within 100 miles where staying overnight is permitted. My backpacking interest elevated to mountain climbing where I have climbed both Tuckerman Ravine and Ammonoosuc Ravine to summit Mt. Washington in NH. Then moved onto summit Mount Baker in Washington on an organized climb with Alpine Ascents three years ago, with the focus on glacier travel. I am signed up to participate in the the Bailey Traverse in the Olympic National Park trip in August. Looking forward to many other backpacking adventures with the group as time permits.

I've backpacked all of my life, but I never get to take too many trips in any one year. Now that I'm an empty nester, I'm thinking I can get away more. I take one trip every fall with some friends to the West, and I've visited most Nat Parks. My most memorable trip was probably Mt. Whitney about 6 years ago.

I usually find myself wandering on trails for long periods of time- now I want to branch out and start staying out overnight.... I have always wanted to be a backpacker but none of my friends share my enthusiasm.  My father always took us on hikes when we were kids and I find there is no place I enjoy more than being on a trail.   I have never truly backpacked before so I am hoping the veterans in the group would be willing to teach me the ropes....

Don't know why I didn't join a group sooner.  My kids go with me maybe once a year, my husband keeps saying he will someday, and the person who got me hooked went away.  Oh yeah, and my friends are all chicken. Sounds like a real sad story, ...wasn't meant to be ... but I really want to do the Shawnee trail (well maybe part of it).. and it would be the perfect weather for New Years, with a beautiful full moon ...and the snow falling down....if anyone's going, I will be quite jealous, and if you could wish upon a star for me.
Didn't know this would be part of my profile....so I'm signed up for two hikes, one in March and a long one in September....time to get in shape...I'm so excited...see ya on the trail.

My love of the outdoors comes mostly from the boredom of a life in suburbia. I've been backpacking, hiking and canoeing for about 10 years.

I have spent many weeks on the lakes of Algonquin Provincial Park in Ontario, Canada, a few weeks on the trails of northern New Mexico and countless nights on the trails of Western Pa and the surrounding area.

I just moved to Ohio from the Pittsburgh area and am looking to get back outdoors.

I've recently moved back to Cleveland after a decade-long absence and am looking to meet people who can reintroduce me to the area and the places I didn't know about when I was growing up here.

I've done backpacking trips in the San Juan range and Indian Peaks in Colorado, the Teton Crest, South Wilderness Coast in Olympic NP, and all around Honduras as a Peace Corps volunteer. Some day hikes w/snowshoes in the ADKs, but no real winter camping to date - I chalk this up to lack of adventurous compatriots rather than my willingness to try! I'm excited that this seems to be such an active group.

I used to be much more involved in backpacking back when I was in Boy Scouts and would like to get back into it.  I've backpacked in OH, NM, PA and NH in the past and would like to expand my frontiers to other states...start off on the shorter weekend trips and work my way back to the longer, week long trips.  I'm also an Eagle Scout and have a fair bit of backpacking knowledge which I'd like to shake the cobwebs off of.

I am a fun loving person and enjoy all kinds of outdoor activities. Looking for local clubs and people who want to enjoy backpacking trips in the area ( I live in northern MD).  Biggest passions now are backpacking ( don't do enough) self-contained and road biking, and skiing.

I've been backpacking for some years now. Usually with friends in and around OH, PA, and KY but also annually out west in Mt. Rainier National Park (WA) and Three Sisters Wilderness (OR). I love all that backpacking has to offer and am hoping that joining this club will only lead to more great experiences.

I am from Pittsburgh, PA. Since none of my friends backpack, I figure this would be a good way to meet people who do. I have backpacked in the Smokies, Grand Canyon, New Mexico, Yosemite, & Glacier. I like to average between 7-18 miles per day depending upon terrain.

Hello everyone, I just moved to the Cleveland area in June and I am looking forward to getting outdoors more. I have always been an outdoors kinda guy...I love to fish and hike and camp etc., but I have yet to cross over into the outdoor class that I have always hoped that I would. I am in the no excuses phase of that progression towards that goal. I heard of your website from one of the guys at the Appalacian Outfitters(great store btw), and it seemed like a nice place to start "networking" and I am looking forward to the experience.

I hike a couple one or two week walks a year, Ohio and Pa mainly WV once, nor great adventure trips. I guess I can claim 50+ years experience but with a major gap in the middle. Started in Scouts (Eagle Scout) gap from collage to about ten years ago then see above.

Was supposed to be 1/3 thru a 3 week walk on the Buckeye today. Left leg said go home. :-) Leaving Sunday to at least do some of it and join a BTA work party.

I have helped with BP classes for MetroParks and enjoy taking friends and family on short try it type hikes.

I'm interested in getting to know the area better and make new friends!

I've been hiking since I was old enough but never got into backpacking. That was until this last summer when I purchased some gear at an REI sale and did a three night trip in the Smokeys. I fell in love! Since then I've done a couple nights in the Shenandoah but not had much time for more.

I enjoy camping and hiking, although I am new to this kind of excursion. My idea of hiking is a brisk to slow walk through the woods with my dog and a tent complete with air mattress. I am excited to learn from others in the club on how to "really" hike. My husband and I are looking for adventure. :)

I am an avid outdoor enthusiast that enjoys multipile activities including but not limited to hiking, backpacking, rock climbing, mountain biking, canoeing, whitewater rafting and ice climbing.

As a professional sailor based in Erie, PA  who spends a lot of time on the water I always look forward to spending some time in the woods.  My most recent trip was a 2.5 day trip backpacking about 19 miles in the Smoky Mountains with a friend.  My most ambitious trip was thru-hiking the full length of the Appalachain Trail from Georgia to Maine in 2007.

I am just as happy leading trips as I am following them.

Love to go backpacking and hiking but my friends have either moved on, gotten married and had kids, or just plain disappeared.  I backpack at Laurel Highlands and Bear Run mostly and love winter hiking but looking to expand my horizons to areas I have not hiked yet and new friends I can hike with.  Some other activities I do include bicycling and snow skiing, neither I get to do very often any more.  I do enjoy camping with my six year old son, Sam, but he is not quite ready for large backpacking trips yet.  I have an awesome wife of eight years but she just is not an outdoors person, she has tried but just can't do more than a night or two in a tent with an air bed and with in a short walk of flush toilets.

While I love the woods and take day hikes with my wife as often as we can, I have never backpacked. At 61 years of age, this is a dream I can put off no longer. While I am not sure how my aging body will react to this sport, I am willing to experiment within my limits.

Some quick facts:
I have worked in human service organizations for over 30 years.
I swim about 3X/wk to stay in shape.
I enjoy vegetable gardening, golf, XC skiing and reading.
If I come to enjoy backing, I'd like to try to invite my wife and some friends to try it as well.

I'm a forest-lover! I'm in on just about any sport happening there -- mountain biking, cross-country skiing, backpacking, etc... I started backpacking a year ago, and it's rapidly becoming my favorite thing to do. After reading "A Walk in the Woods" hiking the AT hit my bucket list, in fact, I just got back from a week-long AT backpacking trip in the Shenandoah forest. Unlike Bill Bryson,I actually got to see a couple of bears. WoooHoo!

In the mid 80's I spent a majority of my free time volunteering for the CVNP; backpacking in OH, PA and Canada; fishing and SCUBA diving. Adult life took over and free time became non-existent. I now am interested in picking up where I left off and this seems like a great place to start.

I'm 30yrs old and love everything the outdoors has to offer.  I've done everything from whitewater kayaking to rock climbing to mountainbiking.  I had done some backpacking as a kid and have hiked my whole life but have just revisited backpacking as of a couple of years ago.  I'm getting more and more increasingly hooked on it and love the escape thats offered by heading in to the backcountry with all of your supplies on your back.

I do mostly weekend trips in to PA but over the past two years I've gone out east to Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine as well as a trip through the Sierra Nevada range in CA.  I'm looking forward to meeting some local backpackers and hopefully jumping in to some group trips soon.

I used to work for the National Park and Forest Service out West and am looking forward to maybe meeting some like-minded folks who might like to head out that way, once in awhile. Mainly though, looking for people that might like to do some short weekend trips out around PA/Wv/Michigan.

I'm somewhat of a novice hiker, just doing mostly day hikes thus far (8-10 milers).  My one weekend trip was on the AT and I overpacked big time.  Even with the extra weight, I loved the hike and can't wait to get back out there.  I'd like to get in some weekend hikes (2-3 nights) and eventually build up to a 7-10 day hike.

I also enjoy biking on the Towpath and through other parks in NE Ohio.  Hit me up if you're interested in getting out for a hike or ride.

I am some what experienced in backpacking.  My resume includes many camping and fishing trips along with many day hikes.  I took a class in backpacking in college since I was such a fan of outdoors activities.  We took a class trip to PA for a weekend.  I am joing b/c I am interested in doing more backpacking and would like to become more experienced. I would like to meet others who share the same interest in nature, the fun that the outdoors has to offer, and groups who would like to get together to hike with.

I recently moved here from Upstate New York, where my hiking experience was primarily in the Adirondacks. I would like (and need) to get back into hiking, and hopefully kayaking along with it. I also enjoy snowshoeing, downhill skiing and have cross-country skied a long time ago.

I had always enjoyed the outdoors as a kid and becoming an Eagle scout and have rediscovered it in an effort to control my weight and get medical issues under control. I just like the peace of a good walk - in the woods or around the neighborhood.

My name is Chris.  I love hiking outdoors--especially in the woods and the mountains.  I'm 55; my wife and I live near Canton, OH, and our two daughters are married now.   No grandkids yet, so I want to take more time backpacking.  I used to run and cycle long distances, but I much more enjoy walking now.  I was in electrical engineering for a number of years.  Being active for many years in our church, I recently shifted careers to serving two congregations.  Life is good--so live, love, and share the joy!  I look forward to meeting other backpackers.

I am a 25 year old wannabe outdoorsman who loves being outside. I grew up outside doing what ever I could and I am trying to get back to that.

I'm a graduate of Otterbein College and have lived in the Columbus area all of my life. To make up for that I have traveled a fair amount. I have done a little backpacking nut that's why I thought this would be a good place to get some more opportunities.

Hey. I backpack about twice a year over a week-end.  Have been doing so for the past 20 years.  Love it. Want to do more!  Would like to be on the July 3 Otter Creek wait list along with Sally Smales!  I share gorp and sing musicals on really cold miserable hikes to keep my spirits up.  OK, maybe I shouldn't include that part - that my eliminate me.

I am a software consultant who just remembered what I missed about the marine corps.

People always ask if I miss the marine corps, and I would always say sort-of... but I could not put a finger on why.

Then after almost 10 years I went camping again and remembered just what I missed. I missed hanging out in the woods, miles from "civilization".

I've been hiking since I was a child. I have a lot of experience with it, but I don't seem to find people to enjoy hiking. I hope I will find some here.
I own some nice hiking gear I can share with others, several hi-tek backpacks, a 3 season tent (Eureka) and more.
So far,  I hiked in Zion, Arches, Death Valley, a few other National Parks and some small areas around Cleveland.
I would love to hike Grand Canyon, so I hope some trips there will come soon on this web site.
Another goal of mine is to hike the Alps. I've been to  Mont Blanc,(well close by in Chamonix), but didn't do any hiking.
I have 2 degrees, Mechanical Engineer Technology and   IT , currently working as a computer/network tech .

Most of my hiking experience is from approaches to rock climbing crags, but as I've gotten older, I've toned down the climbing and have gotten interested in hiking and backpacking for it's own sake.  I've put together a good kit of backpacking gear, but other than a a few days on the AP, my backpacking resume' is pretty thin.  My obligations at work and home don't allow me a lot of time for trips, so I would like to find some good long-weekend trips in this region.  I also have a six year old grandson that loves car camping.  I would like to ease him into some overnight backpacking trips.

I'm new to backpacking with two trips in Wayne National Forest and one uncompleted trek in the smoky mountains, bit off a little more than I could chew. Anyway, my fever for adventure is still menacing and I can't wait to get out there. I'm a former outdoor educator turned aspiring nurse looking for fellow backpackers who can teach me more about backpacking. Update: I moved to Florida for love and I'm getting married 12/11/10 in Cleveland! I'm having a hard time finding a club as nice as this in South Florida. If you have any connections or references please let me know. Happy trails!

Hello
I have a love of hiking and backpacking my whole life. My best trips have been in the white Mountains in N.H. I also love any place that you can get to only by two days hike.
I am from out of state and moved to Ohio this past year and I have little information on the trails in this area.
I am a Ast. Scout Master with the Boy Scouts with two of my own kids involved.
It seems I have little time to do what I would like but the scouts keep me on the trail.

After many years of varied backpacking trips, the last 2-3 years have been fallow, causing serious backpacking deprivation which I'm now in the happy position of being able to erase. I've done many trips to PA (Allegheny NF) and Monongahela NF (esp. Dolly Sods and Otter Creek) "locally", and am interested in further riffing in those areas. June finds me in W.and J. NF in VA, then in Montana/Idaho somewhere in late July/early Aug.

My time is largely my own these days, so let me know what Club and/or ad hoc trips you might want to collaborate about, leaving from the Lake/Cuyahoga/Summit/Ashtabula county areas, anywhere from 1-3 nights.

One of the great things about backpacking is I learn something every time I go on a trip.  I've done Archer's Fork, Raccoon Creek, Hickory Creek, and Minister Creek trails.  Now I can add winter backpacking at Minister Creek.  The members in this club are very nice, and I'm having a great time.  I'm hopelessly hooked!  I'll have my employer make my check out to Appalachian Outfitters.

Current Goals:  Try tougher trips, get in shape to backpack in Peru next May, 200 trail miles hiking / backpacking by November 2010, and attend one of Qi Wiz's LNT trips.

My poor husband will learn that when I get ready to pack it in for the night he better get there before the Corgi takes his spot. The German Shepherd sleeps right beside me. She is my critter alarm.

Before joining the club in 2009, I last backpacked on a serious basis 30 years earlier. My longest previous trip was a five-night winter trip on the AT out of Pigeon Forge in 1972. Since joining the club, I have taken 4 club-sponsored trips--the longest a 5-nighter in the Bridger at the end of July 2009, the others weekenders to PA and WV. I am now 66 years old and enjoying the sport as much as I did when I was in my 30's. Outside the club, I have also done a 3-night trip in the Smokies and a 3-night trip in Yosemite in the past 12 months.

Hello,

I have no backpacking experience but love to hike. I'm hoping to gain experience from seasoned backpackers. I'm looking forward to joining the club and learning the sport as well as challenging myself. I'm open to any suggestions to get started from scratch. I have no gear and don't know how or where to get started. But I want to be out in nature and I'm tired of being cooped in an office and my home.

Thanks!

My study of medicine has bought me and my trusty canine companion to Ohio for the time being. I have been camping and hiking since before I can remember. Backpacking began my first trip to Philmont, NM and I have never looked back. My dog, Norman, is my newest trail companion. He loves the trail (almost) as much as I do! I have hiked/backpacked in New Mexico, Texas, Missouri, Arkansas, Utah, Oregon, Colorado and a little in Australia.

I also enjoy running, biking, soccer and occasionally some rock climbing and can't wait to find some friends here who want to share the trail and a campfire when I can find a weekend off!

Some other activities I do include bicycling and may have to dust off my cold weather riding gear this year for TOSRV and snow skiing, neither I get to do very often any more.  I do enjoy camping with my five year old son, Sam, but he is not quite ready for large backpacking trips yet.  I have an awesome wife of seven years but she just is not an outdoors person, she has tried but just can't do more than a night or two in a tent with an air bed and with in a short walk of flush toilets.

I am an old school backpacker and survivalist who just recently fell into lightweight backpacking. This year I've achieved a pack weight of only 13lbs for a weekend trip. I am a avid outdoorsman, lover of all things nature. see you on the trail! Oh and for all you leave not trace fanatics, i'm all for keeping the environment clean. But if i have to poop in the woods, it's staying in the woods! My gear cost way too much to haul shit around in it! :)

I enjoy outdoor activities including hiking, walk in camping, backpacking, canoeing, kayaking, adventure travel, downhill skiing, and cross country skiing. I am 28 and live just outside of downtown cleveland.

I go camping or backpacking on 1 night trips in PA about once a month.

This year I have been focusing on getting my pack weight down and replacing all the hand me downs and heavy gear I bought in the past. I want to do as much winter backpacking as possible over the 09/10 season.

I recently started indoor rock climbing and love it. If your looking for a climbing partner, let me know!

My nickname, Babu, is Swahili for grandfather.  That I am.  I was called that by the porters when I climbed Kilimanjaro in Feb/Mar of 2008.  As training for that trip I did a lot of hiking, no overnight, during 2007 and early 2008. Since my return from Africa I haven’t done very much outdoor exercise – a little walking and golf.  I really would like to get going with some outdoor activities and I think backpacking would be great.

I am retired and in pretty good shape.  I may need some other members to help me to develop some outdoor cooking skills which I haven’t used since Boy Scouts.

I was raised in the gift shop of the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo and experienced my first backpacking trip while hitching a ride on the pack of a cyclist through the West Side Jungle of CLE.
I am now quite addicted to backpacking and will tag along many adventures. I have been on a variety of trails throughout PA and WV, and am looking forward to covering more ground as time goes on.
My favorite piece of gear is a Vaude pack, as it provides a very comfy ride...

I am a 32 year old father of two. I grew up and live in NWPA. I’ve spent my life playing in the woods, and have enjoyed many outdoor activities. Every thing from rock climbing to fishing but backpacking is ultimately my favorite.

In may of 2009 I backpacked the entire NCT in ANF from Willow bay to Amsler springs. My next goal is to finish all the trails that ANF has to offer. At this point I only two left. The twin lakes trail and the Morrison trail.

I've been hiking my entire life (it seems) and backpacking for about 10 years. I love getting out anytime of year. My favorites include Otter Creek Wilderness (WV), Blackwater falls area (WV) and several lovely spots in the alleghenies.  SE ohio isn't bad either!

I'm interested in getting out more this year than in the last couple and wanted to see who else in the region was heading to the woods!

I was born in the western basin of lake Erie in Port Clinton and have spent most of my life either working or playing on the water. I enjoyed 8 years as a sailor; 4 yrs Navy and 4 yrs Coast Guard search and rescue. I've owned numerous vessels, the latest being a 17 ft mahogany touring kayak and a 30 ft Catalina sailboat. I judge myself to be a beginner to intermediate experienced hiker/camper. I have enjoyed the outdoors since my younger days as a boy scout and have camped in several semi primitive and primitive State and Federal Parks. I am experimenting with the idea of trying my hand at hiking parts or all of the Allegheny trail next year or 2009 or 2010.

Recently graduated from college and have been backpacking for several years. I'm big into ultralight backpacking and mostly have time for out the door three day trips. Enjoy the minimalist style of backpacking second to none besides rafting. Unless you combine the rafting with backpacking and maybe a climb, that's a combo that can not be beat.

I do lots of day hikes on the average two a month. One of my favorite hikes was a four day hike to Machu Pichu, Peru. I have also hiked the Black forest trail, and Wyoming. We went on that about a year and six months ago respectively. Each one was about a week long and both were a lot of fun with a lot of good people to get to know.

Hey!  I'm looking to get involved with backpacking.  Although I'm new to this activity, I look forward to learning a lot more about its subtleties, and of course meet its fans.

Hi,

Still a bit of a rookie when it comes to backpacking. My wife and I did hike about 400 miles from Springer Mountain to Damascus, VA earlier this Spring. I'm a college student and looking for some people to explore the outdoors with (my wife's looking to get me out of the house). I'm no expert and am really trying to expand my fieldcraft. I'm trying to get into the light to ultralight side of backpacking. Our pack weight on the AT was about 35 lbs a piece and I want to get that down to 20.

Hi,  I love to go backpacking and no friends who like to go.  Too many princesses/princes and they would rather lug a overnight bag to the Hilton.  I have traveled around Europe in the 90's and love staying at hostels and love to go camping and especially love to back pack.  I have been out of the loop with backpacking and need to buy a good pack, but would love to make some new friends while enjoying nature.  I live in Columbus and used to belong to Outdoor Pursuits but they seem to be at a more advanced packing stage than me and I found most of their trips were to much for my level.

Hope to meet some cool people soon!!!

I'm relatively new to backpacking, always been a fan of the outdoors but didn't get serious about it until a short stint (650 miles) on the A.T. in '04. Now....I backpack like its my job, averaging @ 500 miles a year. Most recent trips include a long section on the C.D.T. and a two day hike on PA.'s Black Forest Trail. I'm new to this club and looking forward to see what it's all about!

I am a CT resident, but my family is in OH and my sister encouraged me to join this site.  We hope to meet up one day on the trail.

I have been hiking most vacations for the last 15 plus years.  My last vacation was in Sequoia/Kings Canyon and Yosemite; where I hiked 8 out of 10 days of the trip.  I have done some easy and some difficult hikes; but have never backpacked.  I may be slow, but steady.

I love to be outdoors and would love to learn more about backpacking.

I am new to camping and hiking, but would like to give it a try and would like to meet some new people. I do like being outdoors, and I am reasonably fit, so the hiking part shouldn't be a problem. The camping and gear part is the new part for me.

My friends call me Gary, and though my family is originally from Austria, I was raised here in Northeast Ohio as a boy. I've been a musician since I was 8 years old, and music is my passion in life. When I was in high school I started performing professionally, and that's how I earned my living the last 35 years. When I was 35, I moved to Florida for 16 years because of my work, and I just returned home to Ohio last December. I'm a classical pianist and composer with a Masters in music, and I moved back to Ohio to be closer to my family, and also to "semi-retire", so that I would have more time to compose. When I was a boy, I grew up in the outdoors backpacking, hiking, camping, mountain climbing (real mountain climbing!), sailing, canoeing, skiing, and speed skating. Being in the outdoors was a natural thing for my family, because that's how they were raised in Vienna. My father was the best teacher that a person could have to learn everything about the outdoors and nature. He passed away 5 years ago, but we had many adventures together while he was alive! He formed a club called "The Cleveland Mountaineers" back in 1960, but I believe they are no longer in exisistence. We both used to go on long mountain climbing and back packing excursions (in the Rockies, Grand Tetons, White Mountains, Smokey Mountains...ect) and we both were also avid skiers. My father was a National Ski Patrol member, and being climbers and skiers, we both used to help out in mountain rescue when we were needed. As I grew older and depended on my hands for my income, I had to give up most of these activities, except for hiking, backpacking, and camping. When I was living in Florida, I made attempts to find a good backpacking club, but Florida is a really boring (and hot!) place to backpack. Now that I'm back in Ohio, I would love to meet some new friends that enjoy backpacking and hiking, and hit the trails again! I usually perform on the weekends, so I would love to meet some f

I've done some backpacking, but not for about 3 years. I'll have to work up to it for a trip, but a couple of months sounds good! I live in the country and am a very enthusiastic outdoorsperson, love birds, travel, wildflowers, everything outside. I'm a creative cook and like a good campfire with backpacking companions.

I've been backpacking for 10 years or so.  Just moved to the area and am happy to be in some hills instead of the flatlands. Just looking for a group of like-minded hikers.

I am 27, born and raised in NEO.  I started in boy scouts when I was 13.  Since the start i have camped and backpacked in some beautiful areas such as, Oil City, Minister Creek, and my favorite, Cimmeron NM at Philmont Scout Ranch.  It is a 10 day backcountry no trace camp for scouting groups.  each time we hiked 40-65 pound packs and 75-100 miles.  The best camping experience I have had to date.  My wife and I were fortunate enough to hike in the Swiss Alps while on vacation.  very cool.  Lately have not been out,  with a new baby, it puts a new spin on life.  will definately be back out as soon as we can.
