My nickname, Babu, is Swahili for grandfather. That I am. I was called that by the porters when I climbed Kilimanjaro in Feb/Mar of 2008. As training for that trip I did a lot of hiking, no overnight, during 2007 and early 2008. Since my return from Africa I haven’t done very much outdoor exercise – a little walking and golf. I really would like to get going with some outdoor activities and I think backpacking would be great.
I am retired and in pretty good shape. I may need some other members to help me to develop some outdoor cooking skills which I haven’t used since Boy Scouts.

I have 2 experiences w/backpacking. The first was at Allegheny in Fall '95 with the Institute of the Great Outdoors through the Cleveland MetroParks. The second time was in '99 with friends at Monongaleha National Forest in WV. It will be fun to try it again. Besides hiking, my favorite sport is cycling.

Hi, I am new to the backpacking area having only done some hiking in the Smokies, Quebec, Cananda, an of course locally. After our last camping trip to Quebec, my kids and I thought it would be fun to go to some walk-in campsites. I haven't got them out yet but I went to Wildcat Hollow recently to try it out myself. So far so good.

I'm a forest-lover! I'm in on just about any sport happening there -- mountain biking, cross-country skiing, backpacking, etc... I started backpacking a year ago, and it's rapidly becoming my favorite thing to do. After reading "A Walk in the Woods" hiking the AT hit my bucket list, in fact, I just got back from a week-long AT backpacking trip in the Shenandoah forest. Unlike Bill Bryson,I actually got to see a couple of bears. WoooHoo!

I am a LNT (Leave No Trace) Certified Trainer. With that in mind, I would like to keep my trips in the LNT method whenever possible. Not familiar with LNT? Here is the site: http://www.lnt.org/programs/principles.php If we are on a trip together, I'm an open book! Please feel free to ask me any questions in regard to LNT and how we can help keep the trail clean for ourselves and others.
I discovered backpacking for myself in college after many years of car camping with my Mom. Since then I've made a number of attempts at putting the right gear together for myself and I finally have something to be happy with! I get on as many trips as I can schedule during between early spring and late fall. I keep to day hikes when the white stuff flies. Hope to see you on the trail.
My mom is "Hobe", a fellow backpacker.

One of the great things about backpacking is I learn something every time I go on a trip. I've done Archer's Fork, Raccoon Creek, Hickory Creek, and Minister Creek trails. Now I can add winter backpacking at Minister Creek. The members in this club are very nice, and I'm having a great time. I'm hopelessly hooked! I'll have my employer make my check out to Appalachian Outfitters.
Current Goals: Try tougher trips, get in shape to backpack in Peru next May, 200 trail miles hiking / backpacking by November 2010, and attend one of Qi Wiz's LNT trips.

I'm a relatively new backpacker. I wish I would have started this activity a long time ago. I've hiked the Laurel Highlands (all 70 miles); Wayne National Forest; and the Appalachian Trail. I chose "big knife" as a trail name because I make handcrafted hunting and fishing knives. Some of my knives are very practical (light) for backpacking as well. Hi all! My name is Billy and I'm from the west side of Cleveland. I just recently moved back home here to Ohio from the great state of Oregon, where I lived for the past four years. I was an avid backpacker and moutain biker out there, but since I've been home I' ve been finding it hard to locate good packpacking spots and people who enjoy the outdoors as much as me. Anyway, I thought this would be a good starting point to network and find cool people to take trips with. Please let me know if there are any trips that people want to go on and I will continue to search for good places to go to here in the fall.

I have recently moved to Ohio from Arizona where I lived for three years and worked as the outreach coorinator for REI. I have been interested in the outdoors scince childhood and try to spend all my free time recreating outdoors in some form; hiking, camping, climbing, kayaking, biking, fishing etc. Any and all excuses to get outdoors. I attended collage in Missoula, MT, and have always tried to work in the outdoor/recreation field. I am interested in meeting others who share a love for nature and would enjoy getting to know the local area.

I started Appalachian Outfitters in 1988 because of my love of the outdoors, backpacking canoeing and kayaking were my hobbies. I eat, sleep and breath gear. There was no place to buy quality outdoor gear and get good advice at that time other than the Backpackers Shop, now 16 years later there is still only 2 great outdoor shops. I have backpacked many places( I took Aaron on his first trip to WV's North Fork Mtn). I am always happy to share maps and advice. I am getting old and there is still so many places I haven't seen yet! The outdoors keeps me young. My photo is on A.O.'s web site. If you stop in at A.O., introduce your self, I have a special place in my heart for backpackers. 03 02 07 My photo has been removed from the AO web site and I have been banned from working the sales floor, however, I still love NEOBP Club

In Columbus and not many organized packing/hiking trips thru our Columbus Outdoor org group. Have packed several of our incredible National parks, but am always interested in both additional outings...distant or a bit more local. Some kayaking experience...quite a bit of cycling interest; and cross country skiing. Very demanding work schedule so finding options that work are somewhat challenging. Grew up in the NE ohio area and just found out about you via a local friend. Thankyou! Cheryl

I enjoy hiking and am interested in hearing what others have to say in regards to this exciting activity. I am an immigrant from Bosnia and Hercegovina and have lived in the USA for almost nine years. I am currently a student, and have hiked in the USA for about four years. I enjoy hiking because i have grown up in the country side, and have spent much time with my father herding sheep as a young boy. Every few months or so we would take some of our sheep over the mountains to the city market. The trips usually would take day to the market, and a day back. By joining this backpacking association i hope that, in a way i will be able to relive the experience of my childhood.

I love outdoor adventure but don't get out and play as much as I would like to. Work and volunteer activities have kept me busy, but I'd like to find more time to get outside, travel and explore because it's when I feel most alive.

I haven't hiked in my home state of Ohio much before, but am interested in taking some overnight trips. I am planning for a NOBO Thru-Hike of the AT starting in March of 2011.

Me & my wife own and run USA Outdoors / Urban Survival Academy located between Cincinnati and Dayton. We offer training for hiking, camping and backpacking. We have joined with 5 Rivers MetroParks in Dayton, Ohio as volunteers for hiking programs that we promote. We also teach awareness on Leave No Trace. We have been camping & hiking for over 20 years personally and really enjoy the great outdoors.

Greetings, I stumbled across this webpage and I'm very impressed and excited. I started backpacking in Boy Scouts in the late 70's and on into Explorers in high school. At O.U. also got out some. When my wife and I were dating we did some. Then work demands and a child blah blah blah you know the rest. I have gotten out to Zaleski a couple times in the two years and I'm looking forward to meeting some new people and checking out some new places.

I am a recent college graduate who just relocated to the area. I am an avid outdoor enthusiast, but my experience is limited as I spent most of my freetime in college playing football. I have hiked on the Georgia section of the AT and a little bit in the Adirondacks. I am really looking forward to learing from the more experienced members of this club.

I'm 40 years young, and love being part of any wilderness area! I have been working on my backcountry skills since 1999.before 99" I was just your average Joe,now taking these type's of adventure's has become a big part of my life! I do most of trip's solo,[all my friends think I've lost my mind] but I wait for that perfect partner [hiking/climbing] which I know is out there somewhere.before I got involved in this game of chance!,I was heavy into building/restoring old cars this just came natural since my 9-5 job was automechanics[15 yrs.] I was also blessed with the opportunity to be part of a close friends a.m.a.super bike race team as cheif mechanic this lasted ashort 3 years. tragically my friends life was cut short at the track in front of me. this was very difficult for sometime, there is no more speed in my life! just wild... I've been active in this wild-thing for 3 yrs. the first few yrs. I just read aton of books and bought pieces of gear. I've been to such place's like PA.,WVA.Tenn.Oh. most of these area's where so wild I've been back multi-times for me this is just good training now day's I'm just starting to get some air time at my local rock wall. my main goal is to become a pro-expedition climber before the age of 55, i strongly feel if I can make this happen It would make my girl,friends,family,2 children, and my dear friend rocket Ron Geis proud of this crazy dream of mine!!!!Tuesday, July 19, 2005 3:16:54 PM

Only backpacked for two yrs. I do most my backpacking in PA. Spend time in CVNP dayhiking to stay in shape. Will hike almost anywhere local. I have a E mail list for those who need pretrip hiking such as some just starting out (beginners, etc) or those out of shape for a big hike, etc. Look to help promote this club by reaching out to others who don't have a clue about the adventure.E mail for info you may not find. The club has a plethora of resources to draw from. I live in Willoughby (fyi, for carpooling, etc)See you soon........
