I'm a veterinary student at OSU and I've been backpacking for about 5 yrs now. I just can't get enough of the outdoors!! I have done a couple short hikes, including 5 days on the appalachian trail inthe Mount Rogers area that was the greatest vacation ever. I live in the North Canton area. I recently spent a week in Washington State doing day hikes in the Mount Rainier area and on the San Juan Islands.

Hello! I'm 26, live in Ashtabula County and love anything that reminds me of the beauty of Creation, including backpacking, hiking, biking, horseback riding, canoeing, rafting, camping, sledding, ice skating, cross-country skiing, travelling. (However, since I tend toward minimalism to the extreme, I play it safe and avoid winter backpacking.) Faves = Death Valley, Yough River, Green River (Utah), Boundary Waters - but NE Ohio's cool, too, so I'm always up for a local day hike!

Ex Boy Scout leader and love the outdoors. Recently divorced, looking for friends and information to plan trips for future outdoor expeditions in the area (NE Ohio and NW Pennsylvania). Am sort of out of shape, but plan to start getting it back this year since I will have more time on my hands than in the past.

I'm a runner, but would love to get into hiking after having been to some of the national parks in Wyoming and Montana. I'd be living in Bend, OR if I could (will someday). Otherwise, I play geetar and am a graphic designer.

I am the son of Qi Wiz, who is also a club member. I'm hoping to join him on some further backpacking adventures. We have previously done some backpacking in Scouting (Philmont twice, Isle Royale once) and recently had a great 8-day trip in high Sierra of Yosemite in 9/07.

I am 52 years old, a surgeon, with some camping and hiking experience. I live in Canfield, Ohio. I am interested in learing about and starting to backpack. I am interested in small group backpacking, and with some experience, going out on my own. Eventually I'd like to involve my boys, now 10 and 12.

I am 41 years old, and once an avid backpacker. I have been away from it for quite some time and would like to get back to it with other people who also enjoy it.
I have all my own equipment and have almost done it all from the White Mountains to Dolly Sods to the Grand Canyon; ski touring, backpacking, rock climbing and bicycling.

I am 23 years old. I am currently attending Kent State University with Geology as my major. I graduate in 2009 then plan on getting my masters in Geological Engineering from Kent State also. I love the outdoors although with my class load its almost impossible to get out and do stuff.

I am 42 yrs. old and my main source of income is from UPS. I am also a Seabee in the Navy and returned from a deployment to Afghanistan and Kuwait in May of 2007. I am 54 years old, i spent six and a half years in the U.S. navy from 1970 to 1977. During this time i was with UDT 21 for abt a year and a half and the remainder of my time with Seal team 1.I did a tour of vietnam with Seal team 1. Today i have a martial arts school in wooster,ive been in the martial arts for ard 42 years. I really enjoy hiking around the area and in the southwest.Every spring i go to the sedona ariz.area en hike the Red Rocks.. I have been backpacking mostly since 2002. I usually hike in Dolly Sods/Roaring Plains, Otter Creek, and Cranberry Wilderness Areas and know most of the trails there. I have backpacked in Ireland (The Dingle Way in 2004 and The Kerry Way in 2006). In October 2005 I hiked Mt. Washington to the Tuckerman Ravine headwall (too much snow and ice to complete) and Franconia Ridge in NH in early winter conditions. In 2006, I completed the WV Allegheny Trail (330 milles) over a series of weekends. I also have bagged 5 of the Adirondack 46'ers and 1 Colorado 14er. I enjoy nature photography (a lot) and wild flower identification. Looking to go to Patagonia, Czech Republic, Sweden and Austria for my lifelist. Hi, I'm Shawn. At present (Feb 2008) I am a 35 year old science teacher living in southern Idaho, but in June, I will be returning to the Sandusky area to help out my ailing father. I absolutely love life in Idaho (I am 2 hrs. from the Sawtooths and 4 hrs. from Yellowstone), so I am sad to be leaving. But I am also blowing the dust off my PA and WV topo maps in anticipation of future adventures. Maybe I'll be able to hook up with some other backpackers once I get back to Ohio.

50 y.o. trail veteran-loves meeting serious backpackers. Prefer 8-15 mile days. I frown on base camping, and car camping is ok only for an occasional Fri. nite. I usually get out 2x per year, spring and fall, and am always dreaming about my next BIG trip. My last one was the 100 mile wilderness in '04. Next bright idea is to do Laurel Highlands in 3-and-a-half days. Always use the lean-tos on AT- love the camaraderie. Family guy who loves Creation. Pack weight averages 28-35. Meals are heat-n-eat; no cooking!

My first backpacking was in 1972-1973 in Vietnam with a 70 to 75 lb pack (ouch) Hard to make ammo, claymores, and ammo boxes light. The only thing light was the shelter and sleeping blanket. I was able to do a few more enjoyable trips after Vietnam. Three children later and finally able to get back to backpacking at the age of 61. Actually found someone who thought it was fun. We were able to get out and do 45 miles on the APT. Look forward to doing at least a short trip in West Va. this fall

Hello My name is Bill. I usually do more day hiking than BPing. I try to do a couple BPing trips a year. I would love to do some BPing with a group.I dont get many weekend off so I do most my BPing/hiking during the weekdays. I also try to do Geocaching with my dayhikes. I am married with 1 teenager. i live and work in the new river gorge in the summers as a raft guide. i like hiking, mountain biking, road cycling, and fishing

I have been hiking and backing packing for many years solo, or with my best friend. We Also will take his 15 year old son and my 9 year old daughter most all of the time with us. We will do quick overnights in the Mohician Forest, or Southern Ohio, and if we have a longer time to be out we will be at Minister Creek, or Hickory Creek wilderness in PA. I also ski, kayak tour, and have done some whitewater kayaking as well as SCUBA diving.

I have been a backpack camper since I was a kid. These days, I particularly love spur-of-the moment adventure trips. Been on trips to Glacier Park, Banff, Yoho, and Mount Ranier in that mode. I am an avid photographer, so I always bring the camera along - will take the hard road on a hike to get a good shot. My other major hobby is competitive distance running - anything from 5k's to full marathons. I would like to find a group with some of the same interests for an occaisional adventure. I'm new to backpacking and my friend is convincing me that I'll love it.

Completely new to backpacking. Live in Solon, OH (20 minutes SE of Cleveland). Only lived in Ohio for a year now. I've spent quite a bit of time in the woods hunting, but most of my camping has been done via car/4-wheeler, never had to carry much. Looking for someone or a group that wouldn't mind teaching/mentoring a new backpacker. Currently, I'm hiking 7-10 miles 3-4 times a week, with no pack (as I don't yet own one).

I'd love the chance to try a few different packs and learn the differences before purchasing, so if anyone has old gear willing to bring along for a hike that would be great.

Like most I don't have tons of money to spend and want to make sure I make a good purchase the first time on gear that will fit properly and hold up well. I do have a pair of snowshoes and will definitely be up for some snow shoeing this winter.

Have only seriously started to backpack over the ast 2 years after a lifetime of hiking. I'm 44 and live in Stow. My son and I completed 84 miles over 10 days last summer at the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico doing 8 - 15 miles per day at elevations from 6,700' - 12,000' My wife and daughter would like to start with some easier overnight trips. most recent trip was a week long trek into the sierra nevada mountains. the trip was last july and we went as high as 11,000 feet. very difficult to breathe but we slowly adjusted. i teach school and will retire in 2 years. i am looking for more trips either out west or in the east. i grew up in the cleveland area but live near bgsu where i attended college. i still consider cleveland my home.

I'm currently a medical student at the Medical University of Americas. I enjoy travelling and discovery.

I have lived in and close by the CVNRA all my life, in my youth I enjoyed hiking and camping at Camp Manatoc and Butler with the Boy Scouts, my first long distance hike was on the OA trail (still exists) 13 miles long approx.. In the last 10 yrs I have been day hiking the CVNRA every chance I get, recently I went on an Appalcian Outfitters trip and had a good experience and would like to do some more backpacking.

Been camping since I was little,but always wanted to backpack. I have done mostly alleganies,still plenty to see.I haven't found many areas in Ohio to backpack.I have been on a few group hikes here and have had a lot of fun on each.My Wife is afraid of bears,so I solo as often as possible.I have recently started to kayak in and then hike in to a campsite.(I think they call that stealth camping,but most would say trespassing!)If anyone wants to kayak in somewhere,and maybe do a little fishing and a hike,let Me know! I live in Geneva,and now plenty of good places to paddle to a campspot!So far this has been a great club.

I live in the Detroit area.
I love outdoor activities, wildlife and the like but consider myself a novice backpacker. I hope to learn more and find people who can show me the ropes.
I'm currently a Biology student at U of M and am working on my certification to teach high school.
I work as a free-lance guitarist in my spare time.
I am an avid herpetoculturist and helped run on of the largest reptile collections in the world for several years. I now maintain a mid-sized collection of my own and specialize in the captive propagation of rare snakes.

I like to hike and do some landscape, nature photography.

I am an outdoors person. If it is outdoors, I will try it. I especially enjoy hiking and kayaking.

Rookie Backpacker interested in getting family involved. Like to camp and fish and canoe.

Just finishing up grad school, getting my masters in biology, concentrating on herpetology (reptile and amphibians). Ive been hiking since before I can remember, and backpacking off and on for a few years. Met Patsquatch a few weeks ago and gone on a trip or 2 with him.

I worked in the back country in Utah for 6 months and loved every minute of it. Nature photography is a major hobby of mine, but i also like biking, boating, sports etc.

I'm forty three and a high school English teacher. I've done a little of all the following: backpacking, rock climbing, sailing, scuba diving, mountainbiking, and whitewater canoeing and kayaking. I've never done any "big" trips and now that I've got the time, I'd like to start working toward fulfilling that dream. I've backpacked Minister Creek, Shawnee, and Zaleski, and part of the AT years ago. I've canoed the best rivers in Ohio, and paddled Class III-IV whitewater in PA and WVA.

51 year old male. I live in Warren, Oh. Went on a 21 day Outward Bound class in Colorado at the age of 17. I have had a rekindled interested in Backpacking for approximately 7 years now. I have backpacked most trails within 100 miles where staying overnight is permitted. My backpacking interest elevated to mountain climbing where I have climbed both Tuckerman Ravine and Ammonoosuc Ravine to summit Mt. Washington in NH. Then moved onto summit Mount Baker in Washington on an organized climb with Alpine Ascents three years ago, with the focus on glacier travel. I am signed up to participate in the the Bailey Traverse in the Olympic National Park trip in August. Looking forward to many other backpacking adventures with the group as time permits.

I just moved to Ohio and am looking to spend some time backpacking. I am a beginner.

I'm Chip and I live in western Pennsylvania. i just enjoy being in the woods like the rest of you. It's great to live in an area with so may nice trails. I've hiked some parts of the AT but most of my trips are around here. My 7 year old and i do a couple short trips when the weather is nice. I save all the long rainy trips for this club. I enjoy outdoor activities: waling, hiking, fishing, boating, roller blading, bicycling, etc.
I'm currently on a strict liquid diet and need a variety of activities to exercise. I am looking for hiking and backpacking trips with likeminded adults and families.

I am an avid outdoor enthusiast that enjoys multipile activities including but not limited to hiking, backpacking, rock climbing, mountain biking, canoeing, whitewater rafting and ice climbing.

As a professional sailor based in Erie, PA who spends a lot of time on the water I always look forward to spending some time in the woods. My most recent trip was a 2.5 day trip backpacking about 19 miles in the Smoky Mountains with a friend. My most ambitious trip was thru-hiking the full length of the Appalachain Trail from Georgia to Maine in 2007.

I am just as happy leading trips as I am following them.

I'm currently from Columbus Ohio but grew up near Chardon Ohio and always think of that as home, I've covered all the trails I could find down here near Hocking Hills and am preparing to hike at least part of the AT in 2006 and 2007. I'd love to attend some group events and meet some other folks from the Columbus area.

I am an avid outdoor enthusist. I have been kayaking for 6 years and canoeing since i was 6yr. I just started to rock climb 3-4 years ago in college and now it is time to put it all together and go on a trip. I love adventures!

i would love to backpack and be out in the wilderness as a career. i am married with 4 young children and another on the way. i am a master auto tech and i need to do as much side work as i can to feed the family and afford to get out on the trail. so if anybody has car troubles let me know. i specialize in diagnostics and the "big" jobs.

Grew up in the country. I take my young boys on short hikes whenever possible. I'm joining so that perhaps I can sneak away for a weekend here and there for longer trips which my boys are not ready for yet.

I am 36 and in very good shape. Would like to meet a small group of 4-6 other hikers around the same age for weekend trips. I want to do at at least 4 weekend trips in 2009 - one each season. Doesn't sound like much but it's all the time I can afford to take away from the family. Anyone else out there in a similar situation? Itching to get out and smell the air when the leaves change but can't go every month due to work and family commitments? Contact me and maybe we can get a group together for a weekend somewhere in southern Ohio or over the border into Pennsylvania.

I am 27 years old, and live in the Akron area. I've been hiking for a long time, and started backpacking in 2001. Some of my favorite areas I have backpacked and hiked at are Denali Nat. Park in Alaska, Great Smoky Mountains Nat. Park, and The Dolly Sods wilderness in WV.

I enjoy hiking, MTB and whitewater rafting. I have not done alot of backpacking but I am interested in gaining more experience in this area. I have hike thrioughout the West and worked for the Forest service in Telluride, Colorado on trail crew.

Akron native, now living in central OH. I enjoy mountaineering and backpacking. I've packed in OH, VA, WV, PA, and a bit out west in CA. I enjoy the physical challenge of hilly terrain, and have tested that on a couple of trips to Nepal. In July 2009 I climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro, which is like a really steep 6-day backpacking trip:). I love North Fork in WV, the Cascades in the Pacific NW. I've got so many places on my list yet to see -- maybe I'll see you in one of them! It's not that I really like carrying my bed on my back...it's just that I like the places I can go when I do so.

Interested in trying backpacking. Never found anyone to do it with. This looks like a start.

A resident of Sagamore Hills, recently retired, and now have time to hike and camp, again. In the past was in Scout leadership. Have hiked a little of the AT and some of the Foothills Trail and Shenendoah NP. I'm looking forward to the outings.

Pretty new to backpacking, lots of hiking experience. Have done a few nights each at Isle Royale and Grand Isle in MI. Daughter works at Isle Royale!
Take regular walks/hikes with our 3 dogs.

I finished college a year ago at Ohio State. Spent the last year backpacking across Australia and New Zealand with buddy. I'm now back in Ohio looking for a job and possibly grad school. I love the great outdoors and adventure and hope to explore a bit of the region in my free time.

Recent college graduate, I travel often for work and love bringing my backpacking gear and going somewhere new every weekend.

I'm an experienced outdoorsman. I like all kinds of outdoor activities, from backpacking, canoeing, kayaking, and back country / cross country skiing. I have spent a lot of time on both summer and winter trips throughout the northern parts of North America, especially Alaska, Washington, Montana, Idaho, and Minnesota. I also have a lot of experience in the canyons of southern Utah. Not much for hiking where it is hot and humid (read - S.E. USA) - I much prefer to deal with cold or bugs than humidity.

I love the outdoors and have recently discovered mountain climbing in 2008. I have climbed with Lori Saviers who is also a member of your group, up Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa last July. She has encouraged me to join this group because you head up to Pa. and I am in NJ. I am a mother of four boys and I have also earned the rank of 2nd degree black belt in Tang Soo Do. I took my first backpacking trip this Spring and loved it. I've always enjoyed hiking and the outdoors. I've hiked out West (Colorado, Utah, Cal) and some in the Southwest and Northeast, but only day trips. I'm looking forward to increasing my skills and enjoying more extended trips.

I have been an avid outdoorsman my entire life. I have done all kinds of adventurous trips including long bike trips, backpacking trips, adventure races and races up to a marathon distance. The past few years I have started climbing fourteeners in Colorado; Mt. Elbert, Pikes Peak, etc.

I work all week and want to try and get out on the trails in the area on the weekends. Mostly weekend excursions, 1-2 day trips, but I'm always up for something more intense...
